Wherever possible, plant closely-spaced evergreens on both sides of long stretches of open city roads running E-W. (e.g., 19th Av N from University Drive to I-29 or some stretches of Main Ave between Fargo & W Fargo) Besides the aesthetic appeal, the increased carbon sequestration, increase in oxygen levels & increase in evaporative cooling and the benefits for wildlife, we could save money on manpower & fuel for plows. Less frequent plowing on some roads would mean that employees could be reassigned to other streets across the city, another cost savings. |
